Artist Statement
My paintings and drawings exist somewhere between the representational and non-representational and it blurs the lines between high art and low art. There are familiar images that are put together in an unorthodox way, one would think these pictures are not supposed to work together but yet co-exist. The figures are distorted and stylized, at times highly rendered and others left at sketch quality. They are business people, worldly young adults and old-school sophisticates each trying to find their bigger purpose and footing in the world. But they are hanging in a limbo, in a midsts of chaos and turmoil, searching for answers, and it is unclear what will happen next... Artist bio:
Jack Avetisyan is an Armenian-American artist whose paintings display various distinctive identities. His style oscillates between cartoons and abstract compositions, often combining the two into a single piece. His subjects are business people, worldly young adults, old-school sophisticates, who are typically self-satisfied and reeking of financial and social success. His characters occupy an unruly yet elegant a world of drips, darting lines, and swaths of paint. His work can be found in private collections in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia and across the States. It can be found in the permanent collection at Luxury Daxton Hotel in Detroit, MI area. |
