My “Superpower”
I always thought being sensitive and empathetic was going to be my downfall. Sometimes it can feel that way, but as I grow as an Artist, Mother, and HUMAN, I feel now more than ever that this part of me is a strength and connects me to all walks of life. I have zero regrets of the experiences I’ve had, choices I’ve made; my sensitivity fueling creativity while empathy keeps me grounded, allowing me to continue pushing forward, learning, growing, adapting, and changing. Artist Bio
Michelle Lubin (MDFerrera) is a San Diego based figurative artist, mural painter, and illustrator. With a Fine Art Degree from NJ, she moved to Southern California 10 years ago to pursue an art career. The artist attributes her progression to the opportunities and support from the San Diego art community. Exhibiting with local galleries like; Thumbprint Gallery (La Jolla), Sparks Gallery (Downtown SD), and Adelman Fine Art (Little Italy), early in her career opened the door to opportunities at fairs and events like San Diego’s Contemporary Art Fair, earning her multiple drawing awards and national recognition. Over the years she has utilized these platforms to create journaling workshops and self-publications, shining a light on the importance of creative outlets. Her most recent figurative series, recognized locally with a solo exhibition/artist talk in early 2021 at The Studio Door (Hillcrest), has also been juried and published internationally with Artist Talk Magazine and Juniper Rag. Through the pandemic, MDFerrera has continued to create for local charitable organizations like Imperial Beach Arts Bureau, RecUniversal, and ArtReachSD, painting murals and various surfaces for auction. As a female/mother artist, joining collectives like All She Makes and Artmumsunited at the height of the pandemic, has not only been a way to stay connected to like minded artists, but has also provided resources, virtual exhibition, and interview opportunities. 2021 saw more firsts for the artist, with a booth at ArtWalk Little Italy and illustrating a children’s book. With exhibitions, murals, and a new series already in the works for 2022, follow her in the moment journey @MDFerrera. |
